Watch Professor Jim Al-Khalili’s Christmas Lecture being recorded live at Keele University, with demonstrations and guest contributions exploring time travel, time’s direction and Einstein’s relativity. Trace timekeeping from sundials and water clocks to atomic clocks, with tea and coffee available beforehand.
Join the Institute of Physics for an in-person screening of the Royal Institution’s Christmas Lecture filming. The event brings the Christmas Lecture to a live audience at Keele University, giving attendees the chance to watch the broadcast as it is being recorded and to share in the excitement of one of the UK’s best-known science traditions.
Professor Jim Al-Khalili will explore the science of time, using demonstrations and guest contributions to tackle big questions about time travel, the direction of time, the nature of the future, and whether time itself exists. The lecture also traces how people have measured time through history, from sundials and water clocks to atomic clocks, before turning to Einstein’s theory of relativity and its impact on our understanding of time.
Tea and coffee are available beforehand, and registration is required so the organisers can plan the room and send any updates.
