Apply NowCurious about Classical Greek and keen to boost your UCAS profile? Study for the ICCG, earn a recognised Distinction/Merit/Pass endorsed by leading classics bodies, and gain language skills and university recognition that open doors to classics and related degrees.
The Intermediate Certificate in Classical Greek (ICCG) is a new qualification established to sit below the level of the current GCSE and is based on the textbook Taylor, Greek to GCSE I. The ICCG provides a recognised certificate of attainment (graded Distinction, Merit or Pass) and is endorsed by several organisations including the Classical Association, Classics for All and JACT Greek Summer School, with recognition/support from a number of UK university classical departments.
The qualification is designed to be more widely accessible than the full GCSE and is open to entries in any school year group, independent learners and adults; it is expected to be particularly attractive to students in Years 9-11 and is also suitable for those beginning Greek in sixth form. The ICCG is recognised as a QIP by UCAS and may therefore be recognised by universities.
Assessment is by a single linguistic examination sat in schools and other approved centres within a one- or two-week window in June each year. Scripts are returned for central marking and results are issued by the end of August.
The examination fee is A318 per entry (covers costs); state school entries are currently funded by Classics for All and limited bursaries may be available for those unable to pay. The website hosts a free resources bank and invites teachers to submit materials for sharing.
