Introduction to Statistics

This on-demand video lecture, produced by MASSOLIT and delivered by Dr Craig Anderson (University of Glasgow), introduces core topics from the AQA GCSE (8300) Higher Tier Statistics syllabus. The content spans Topics S1S3 and S5 and is organised as short mini-lectures.

It explains what statistics is, how statistical methods are applied in real-world contexts (for example healthcare, air quality and historical epidemiology), and introduces distinctions between primary and secondary data, quantitative and qualitative data, and discrete versus continuous quantitative variables. Later mini-lectures in the course cover populations and sampling, frequency tables and graphical presentation of data (bar charts, pictograms, pie charts, line charts), cumulative frequency diagrams and histograms.
