Fancy deepening your Greek or Latin at Durham? Join a week-long residential, study six levels from Beginner to Advanced, tackle Classical Civilisation and Homer with experienced tutors, build skills, boost your uni/career prospects and connect with peers who love the classics.

The JACT Durham Greek & Latin Summer School is a university-style residential summer programme at St John's College, Durham University. It offers tuition at six levels in both Latin and Greek, from Beginner to Advanced, alongside a Classical Civilisation course and a Homer & Tragedy Reading Group.

The courses are taught by experienced tutors from schools and universities, making it suitable for learners at different stages of their classical studies. Across the week, participants receive 18 hours of tuition in a supportive academic environment.

The programme is designed to challenge students while also giving them time to relax, socialise, and enjoy the wider summer school experience. It is aimed at students who want to improve their language skills, prepare for GCSEs or A Levels, or continue their classical studies before university.

Beyond the classroom, the summer school includes optional excursions to local cultural and historical sites, plus afternoons filled with workshops, grammar clinics, lectures, and discussion sessions. Evenings feature guest speakers, an Ancient History Quiz, and social activities, creating a lively and memorable week for anyone interested in the ancient world.
