Apply NowWant to get stuck into real plant and microbial science? Join John Innes Centre Science Camp for five days of hands-on lab work, chromatography and confocal microscopy, and placements with researchers, build lab skills, see science careers up close and boost your uni/career profile
The John Innes Centre Science Camp is a five-day, in-person programme designed for Year 10 students to explore plant and microbial science through hands-on laboratory activities and placements alongside professional researchers.
Participants will see how plant and microbial scientists work and carry out experiments and work placement activities such as using chromatography and confocal microscopes. The programme is non-residential so attendees must arrange daily travel to the John Innes Centre.
Selected students will be offered a fully funded place to work towards a Youth STEMM Award; time at Science Camp will typically account for around half of the Bronze level award. Travel bursaries are available for students who receive free school meals.
Applications open 31 October 2025 and close on 16 January 2026; see the JIC website and FAQ for full application details.
