Get hands-on with plant and microbial science in a research environment, practising basic lab safety and techniques. Shadow a scientist or technician and hear from staff and students in different roles during this free five-day camp.
John Innes Centre Science Camp is a free, annual five-day camp for Year 10 students who want to learn more about plant and microbial science. It is held at the John Innes Centre and is designed to give students a hands-on introduction to scientific work in a research environment.
During the camp, students take part in practical activities that support their understanding of basic laboratory safety and techniques. They also have the chance to shadow a scientist or technician and hear from staff and students in a range of roles, helping them explore what it is like to work in science.
The camp is non-residential, so participants travel to and from the site each day. Travel bursaries are available for students in receipt of free school meals, and applicants need parental or carer consent as part of the process.
