Research local issues, draft press releases and see how an MP’s office works in practice through a constituency placement. Depending on your age and ability, you could answer constituents’ queries or accompany the MP to meetings in the House or constituency.
Julian Smith MP offers work experience placements for students from his constituency who want to gain insight into local politics and public service. The placement is designed to help young people build skills while learning how an MP’s office works in practice.
Participants may be given a range of office-based and political tasks, depending on their age and ability. These can include researching issues, taking press cuttings, writing press releases, helping with office duties, answering constituents’ queries by phone or email, and accompanying the MP to meetings or events in the House or in the constituency.
Interested students should contact the office to enquire about availability.
