Junior Guildhall Music Course offers advanced training for children and young people aged 8to18 (with singers typically joining from their mid-teens). The programme combines individual instrumental or vocal tuition, chamber music, orchestra and choir participation, workshop activity, classes and frequent public performance opportunities.
Students receive an individually constructed timetable tailored to their age and level, with compulsory core activities and optional classes available at additional cost.
The course operates on Saturdays across the academic year, with a Saturday timetable running approximately 08:00to18:00. Students receive 30 one-to-one lessons per year (minimum 40 minutes weekly) and may opt for additional study lessons (including jazz options).
The programme includes weekly Musical Awareness classes leading to the Junior Guildhall Higher Certificate in Music (usually taken in Year 10 or 11), chamber music coaching, masterclasses with visiting artists, and numerous performance opportunities including public concerts and recordings.
Entry is by competitive audition. Applications are accepted from early January for September entry, with the main audition period in MarchtoApril. Pre-audition advice sessions and consultation lessons are available (charged), and limited places (notably first study piano) mean not all applicants will be invited to audition.
