Follow a fictional reported crime from start to finish at a police college in Maidstone, meeting 999 call handlers, dog handlers, crime scene investigators and detectives. See skills and equipment demonstrations, try hands-on activities, and hear how to apply for roles from the Recruitment Team.
Kent Police Work Experience Programme gives young people an insight into policing and the range of roles available within the organisation. It is designed for students aged 15 to 17 and offers a chance to find out what it is like to work in a police force, with a particular focus on the different departments that contribute to frontline and support operations.
Participants are supervised by Kent Police’s Child Centered Policing Team and follow the timeline of a fictional reported crime from start to finish. The programme showcases a variety of roles, including 999 call handlers, firearms officers, dog handlers, crime scene investigators, local police officers and detectives.
Students can learn about each role, see demonstrations of skills and equipment, and, in some cases, take part in hands-on activities.
The day also includes input from the Recruitment Team, who explain how to apply for roles within Kent Police, and from an officer who has recently completed basic training. The programme takes place at Kent Police College in Maidstone and runs as a one-day experience.
