King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Want real NHS experience? Join King’s College Hospital work placements to shadow clinical and non-clinical teams, build practical skills, connect with mentors and strengthen your uni or job applications - one to five days at King’s or PRUH.
King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust offers a range of work experience programmes for young people interested in healthcare careers. The Trust’s main King’s Work Experience programme provides one-to-five-day clinical and non-clinical placements, matching participants with mentors according to career interests.
Placements take place at King’s College Hospital and the Princess Royal University Hospital and cover both clinical teams (for example, acute medicine, surgery, paediatrics, radiography, pharmacy, nursing and allied health professions) and non-clinical teams (including finance, HR, project management and quality improvement).
The Trust also runs Project SEARCH in partnership with DFN Project SEARCH and local colleges: a national programme for people aged 18 to 24 with learning disabilities and/or autism. Project SEARCH interns complete three placements (each 10-12 weeks) across clinical, clinical support and corporate services over a year, with on-site mentorship and job coaching and a graduation in summer.
Other ways to get involved include virtual work experience through the Health and Care Jobs Hub, clinical research placements (for students aged 16+), volunteering (16+), apprenticeships, clinical observerships and current paid vacancies. The Trust publishes specific application opening and closing dates for each placement cohort on its website.
