Support patients and visitors across four hospital sites through practical, non-clinical roles, including guiding people, answering phones, mealtime support and Pets As Therapy visits.
King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust offers volunteering roles that help improve the experience of patients and visitors across its hospitals. Volunteers provide practical support to staff, but they do not carry out clinical work or act as work experience placements.
The programme is open to people from a wide range of backgrounds who want to contribute to a friendlier, more comfortable hospital environment.
Typical roles include admin support, meeter and greeter duties, outpatient support, mealtime support, patient engagement activities and Pets As Therapy visits. Volunteers may help with filing, answering phones, guiding people around the hospital, offering reassurance, or supporting patients during their visit.
The Trust says volunteers should be dependable, proactive and able to listen carefully.
Volunteering is based at King’s College Hospital in Denmark Hill, Princess Royal University Hospital in Bromley, Orpington Hospital and Beckenham Beacon. Applicants should be able to commit regularly, and those under 18 need parental consent.
The Trust also supports students who want to use volunteering towards UCAS applications, although references are only available after the required hours have been completed.
