Support the nursing team in a clinical hospice by offering drinks, chatting with patients and visitors, and keeping refreshment areas stocked and tidy. You could also help deliver meals and record food intake under guidance.
The Kirkwood is looking for In-Patient Unit Volunteers to help create a calm, welcoming and compassionate environment for patients and their loved ones. This is a clinical hospice setting, so volunteers support the nursing team while also offering a friendly, reassuring presence that can make a meaningful difference to someone’s day.
Typical duties include refilling water jugs, offering hot and cold drinks, chatting with patients and visitors when appropriate, restocking cupboards and fridges, checking food dates, recording fridge temperatures, and helping to keep kitchen and refreshment areas clean and tidy. Volunteers may also help deliver meals and complete food intake documentation under guidance from the nursing team, while following hospice policies on health and safety, infection prevention, confidentiality and safeguarding.
The role offers an insight into the charity sector, a chance to build confidence and skills, and the opportunity to meet new people and support a team working to improve patient care. The Kirkwood says volunteering can fit around school, work, or other commitments, making it a flexible way to give time to a local cause.
