Explore how council services operate through real-world work experience, or take on a substantial T Level placement, project-based graduate internship or Return to Social Work placement. Each request is assessed individually against team workload and whether a meaningful placement can be supported.

Lancashire County Council offers a range of work experience and placement opportunities for people at school, college or university, as well as for those looking to gain experience to support their career. These placements are designed to give participants valuable experience in a real workplace and to help them develop practical skills, confidence and professional awareness.

The page sets out several different options. General work experience is available for school and college students who want to learn how council services operate and explore different teams and roles. T Level industry placements are available for college students completing a T Level qualification and involve substantial workplace experience over the course of the programme.

The council also offers project-based graduate placements and internships, including opportunities that may take place over the summer or form part of a longer two-year programme.

There are also Return to Social Work placements for qualified social workers who are coming back into the profession and need practical experience to meet restoration requirements. Applicants can request a placement at any time of year, and the council assesses each request individually depending on team workload, availability and whether a meaningful placement can be supported.
