Play in a county youth symphony orchestra, working with inspiring leaders and professional musicians alongside committed instrumentalists. Build your orchestral skills through regular Sunday rehearsals, with additional activities including a residential and summer tour.
Lancashire Youth Symphony Orchestra (LYSO) is one of Lancashire Music Service’s county ensembles, bringing together young musicians from across Lancashire to make music at a high level. The orchestra offers players the chance to work with inspiring leaders and professional musicians while performing alongside other committed instrumentalists.
The ensemble welcomes new players, with a focus on strings, double reed instruments, lower brass and French horn. It is aimed at intermediate and advanced young musicians, with entry standards of grade 5 and above, and grade 4 for strings.
The orchestra is designed to support talented players who want to develop their orchestral skills in a challenging, supportive setting.
Members rehearse regularly on Sundays and also take part in additional activities across the year, including a residential and a summer tour. Rehearsals and concerts mainly take place at Stonyhurst College in Clitheroe, and the ensemble is organised through Lancashire Music Hub’s registration system.
