Play, arrange and research traditional music with a youth ensemble exploring folk from across the UK, especially Lancashire’s musical heritage. Beginners and experienced musicians are welcome, with opportunities to sing and work with professional musicians.
Lancashire Music Hub’s Lancaster Youth Folk Ensemble is a regular gathering for young instrumentalists and singers who want to explore folk music from across the UK, with a particular focus on the communities and musical heritage of Lancashire. The ensemble gives young musicians a place to play, arrange and research traditional music while developing their skills in a supportive group setting.
The group welcomes both beginners and experienced players. It is especially keen to hear from musicians who play folk-rooted instruments such as fiddle/violin, flute, whistle, guitar, mandolin and banjo, although all instruments and voice types are welcome.
Singing opportunities are also built into rehearsals and performances.
The ensemble also works with professional musicians and aims to create new work alongside exploring traditional repertoire. It is designed to help young people discover more about folk traditions while contributing to a county ensemble that celebrates Lancashire’s musical culture.
