Play brass, wind or orchestral percussion in a county concert band, rehearsing every two weeks with other young musicians. Take on everything from marches and orchestral transcriptions to West End, film, rock and pop music, with a free trial rehearsal available.

Lancashire Schools Concert Band, also referred to on the page as Lancashire Youth Concert Band (LYCB), is one of Lancashire’s County Ensembles. It brings together young brass and wind players, along with orchestral percussionists, for regular ensemble music-making in a supportive but challenging environment.

Members rehearse approximately every two weeks and are encouraged to commit fully to rehearsals and concerts. The band explores a wide range of repertoire, from traditional marches and orchestral transcriptions to music from West End musicals, films, rock and pop, helping young musicians develop their ensemble skills, confidence and musicianship.

The ensemble is open to players of Grade 2+ standard, and applicants do not need to have taken an official exam if they have been playing for around two years and are confident music readers. A free trial rehearsal is available, and rehearsals take place in person at venues including All Hallows Catholic High School and Borwick Hall.
