Play big band jazz in a county ensemble, developing your skills with inspiring leaders and professional musicians. Rehearse regularly, take part in day-long sessions and a residential, then finish with a concert performance.
The Lancashire Schools Jazz Orchestra is one of Lancashire Music Service’s county ensembles, giving young musicians the chance to play big band jazz and develop their ensemble skills with inspiring leaders and professional musicians. It is designed for young people across Lancashire who want to take part in regular county-level music making and perform in a supportive, ambitious group.
Members rehearse regularly at All Hallows Catholic High School in Penwortham and take part in a series of day-long sessions through the year. The group also includes a residential element and finishes with a concert performance, giving players the chance to build confidence, musical discipline and performance experience over time.
New members are welcome, and the ensemble provides a pathway for musicians who may go on to the Lancashire Youth Jazz Orchestra. It suits committed young players who want to stretch themselves, meet other musicians from across the county and experience the excitement of playing jazz in a larger ensemble.
