Apply NowWant an edge for uni? Join UCLan’s Lancashire Scholars: explore subject workshops, get one-to-one mentoring from current students and build a 1,500-3,000-word independent research project to boost your skills, confidence and UCAS application this summer.
The Lancashire Scholars Programme is a multi-session widening participation programme for Year 12 and Year 13 students (Scholars aged 19 or under) from the North West of England and the Midlands. The programme combines subject-focused workshops, university-led sessions and one-to-one mentoring from current university students to support applicants in developing an independent research project (1,500-000 word essay) and improve readiness for university study.
Delivery includes a mixture of online and on-campus workshops: North West participants attend sessions at the Universitys Preston Campus while Midlands participants receive online delivery and are invited to an in-person Celebration Event at Preston (with travel support for that event). Activities include study skills, project development, mentoring via the Brightside app, guidance on using AI safely in research, and subject-specific streams (Health/Medicine, Arts & Creative, Humanities, Physical Sciences, Engineering, Computing, Law, Business, Sport, Languages).
Completion can make eligible scholars who meet widening participation criteria eligible for a contextualised UCAS offer (up to 16 UCAS points reduction) and a A3500 annual bursary if they go on to study at UCLan's Preston, Burnley or West Lakes campuses. The Livesey Medicine Pathway offers extra sessions for medicine applicants and two Medicine scholars may receive a full MBBS fee waiver.
