Langevity is a Cambridge outreach programme for students interested in languages and related cultures, histories and politics. The programme is divided into two parts: a series of weekly online webinars delivered by Cambridge academics (each spotlighting a language taught at Cambridge), followed by a one-night in-person residential at Emmanuel College for a small group of Year 12 participants.
The webinars are intended to give students a taste of language study at university and introduce new vocabulary and disciplinary approaches.
The online sessions run weekly on Thursdays from 17:00 to 18:30, starting on 22 January 2026. Topics in this year’s series include Spanish, Ancient Egyptian and Akkadian, Russian and Slavonic languages, Classical languages, linguistics, and introductions to German, Japanese and French (including a session on combining languages with History).
The residential takes place in early April 2026 for a small number of Year 12 attendees who have taken part in the webinars.
The programme is open to UK-domiciled students in Years 10, 11 and 12 (or equivalent). It is free of charge: Emmanuel College will cover food, travel and accommodation costs for those selected to attend the residential.
Year 12 applicants will be prioritised for the residential on the basis of Widening Participation and academic criteria. To sign up, applicants should use the Emmanuel College outreach webpage linked on the programme page.
