Leeds Futures - Medicine is a 12-month outreach programme run by the University of Leeds Health Sciences Outreach Team, designed to inspire and support Year 12 students interested in applying to study medicine or other health-related degree courses. The programme combines fortnightly online evening workshops delivered via Zoom with three on-campus days at the University of Leeds, and gives participants access to an online learning space to consolidate learning.
Activities in Year 12 include a launch event, subject taster sessions, skills and study skills workshops, UCAT preparation (Campus Day 2) and personal statement support. Year 13 activities focus on interview preparation, including an interview skills workshop, a mock MMI and a Futures Graduation to celebrate participants' progress.
Content is delivered by university staff, current students and guest speakers with opportunities for interaction and practice.
The programme is targeted at current Year 12 / first year college students who meet academic suitability and can commit to fortnightly evening sessions and campus attendance. Applicants must satisfy the core eligibility points and at least two widening-participation criteria (or in some cases the postcode criterion alone).
Applications are submitted via an online form and places are prioritised for students from groups under-represented in healthcare education.
