Spend a week seeing how museum teams work, from helping with visitor reception and galleries to observing school or family workshops. You may also get involved in exhibition-related tasks with the Collections team.
Leeds Museums and Galleries offers a week-long work experience placement for Year 10 and Year 12 students from secondary schools across Leeds. The placement gives young people the chance to spend time with different teams across the service and get a feel for the range of work that goes into running museums and galleries.
During the week, students may spend time on visitor reception and galleries with the Operations team, observe school or family workshops with the Learning team, and sometimes take part in exhibition-related tasks with the Collections team. The organisation also encourages students to think about which venue, historical period or team interests them most, although specific experiences cannot be guaranteed.
Placements are limited and offered on a first-come-first-served basis, with each venue usually hosting one or two students at a time. Leeds Museums and Galleries aims to make the experience accessible and inclusive, and will discuss any support needed.
If a place is available, students may also be invited for an informal chat before the placement begins.
