Observe clinical and non-clinical teams in a large NHS organisation, seeing how different roles contribute to patient care and hospital operations. These unpaid placements are observation-only and last up to five working days.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust offers work experience placements for students and other interested members of the community who want to observe working life in a large NHS organisation. Placements may be available in both clinical and non-clinical areas, giving participants a first-hand view of how different teams contribute to patient care and hospital operations.

The placements are unpaid and are observation only, with a maximum length of five working days. Not every department can host work experience, so applicants are encouraged to think carefully about the area that would give them the most useful insight into a future career.

To apply, you should contact the Head of Department directly, complete the required paperwork, and make sure your personal information form and supporting statement are well prepared. The Trust advises contacting departments early, during the academic year before you want the placement to start, and it will not accept requests made less than one month before the placement begins.

If work experience is not available, the Trust also suggests considering volunteering, which is only open to people aged 18 and over.
