The Level 3 Diploma in Zookeeping is a Level 3 qualification designed to prepare learners for working or volunteering in zoos, safari parks and wildlife collections. The course theory is delivered online, self-paced with full tutor support and optional live classes; learners receive tutor feedback and can study around existing commitments.
The qualification carries guided learning hours of 297 and total qualification time of 370 hours and contributes to UCAS points.
Practical training comprises a one-week placement at one of several partner venues (Dartmoor Zoo, Colchester Zoo, Blackpool Zoo or Jimmy's Farm and Wildlife Park). Practical placement dates are provided upon enrolment.
The award is assessed via a variety of in-depth assessments for each unit and covers topics such as animal nutrition, enrichment, health, legislation, zoo enclosure design, conservation and animal handling.
The course is open to anyone aged 16 or over and does not require prior qualifications. Learners should note accommodation and food for the practical placement are not included and course fees must be paid in full prior to attending.
On completion learners are eligible to apply for ZSL Fellowship and are eligible for a Totum/NUS card if completing Level 3 or above.
