Level 2 Technical Diploma Animal Care is a one-year, full-time college course delivered by Heart of Yorkshire Education Group at Wakefield College. The course starts in September and is awarded through Pearson BTEC.
Learners work and study on campus within the provider's animal care facilities, gaining practical experience under the guidance of the animal care team. The course covers Practical Animal Health; Introduction to Animal Biology & Health; Animal Welfare; Animal Behaviour Assessment and Safe Handling; Feeding, Accommodating & Moving Animals.
Students complete a minimum 75-hour industry placement. There are exam elements for Animal Biology and Animal Welfare, with remaining units assessed through graded assignments and a practical portfolio.
Entry requirements are five GCSEs at grades 9-3 including English or Maths, or a Level 1 Diploma in Animal Care with Distinction. On successful completion learners may progress to the next level of Animal Care study.
