Spend two-hour shifts on Gibraltar Point’s beach helping protect nesting little terns and ringed plovers by talking with visitors about the sanctuary. You’ll get training, supporting materials and usually start alongside an experienced Beach Patroller; no bird knowledge is needed.
Help protect Lincolnshire’s shorebirds at Gibraltar Point by volunteering on the beach over the summer. This role focuses on supporting a protected area where little terns and ringed plovers nest on the ground, helping to reduce disturbance and increase awareness of the birds’ vulnerability.
As a Shorebird Volunteer, you will act as an ambassador for the birds, speaking to beach visitors and explaining why the Shorebird Sanctuary matters and how people can help protect the nesting area. The emphasis is on education rather than enforcement, so the role suits friendly volunteers who are happy to talk to the public and share simple conservation messages.
No special bird knowledge is required. Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust provides training on the shorebirds and on positive ways to engage with visitors, along with materials to support you in the role. Volunteers are usually paired with an experienced Beach Patroller at the start, and shifts are two hours long with most volunteers helping on a weekly basis.
