Live and Work with Nomads in Mongolia places you with a nomad family in Tuv Province (about 100 km southwest of Ulaanbaatar) for an immersive cultural experience. You will live in a ger with the family, help with daily tasks such as herding livestock, milking cows, cooking and cleaning, and may teach basic English to children.
The project runs year-round with a minimum stay of one week and a recommendation to stay longer to gain a deeper experience. The programme includes airport pickup and drop-off, accommodation, three meals a day, full induction and ongoing in-country support from local staff, transport to and from placement, training and workshops, project equipment, and a certificate on completion.
Projects Abroad provides 24-hour backup, emergency support, and pre-departure preparation. Flights, travel and medical insurance, and visa fees are not included. This placement suits people who want to experience traditional nomad life and are willing to take part in hands-on, sometimes physical outdoor work in remote settings.
Volunteers should be prepared for limited phone signal and basic living conditions; staff organise regular trips to the city every two weeks.
