LLG's National Work Experience Week 2026 offers students insight into the role of in-house local authority lawyers. The scheme runs from 6 to 10 July 2026 and will be delivered primarily virtually, with an option for in-person student placements where participating local authorities can accommodate them.
Each morning (09:00-12:30) students will work with their assigned Local Authority and afternoons will feature online webinars and workshops delivered by legal professionals across a range of topics. The programme includes sessions on education law, childcare law, advocacy in local government, environment and climate, commercial law, licensing and litigation, planning law, governance, and trainee recruitment.
Activities aim to develop practical skills through real work tasks and occasional attendance at court hearings, while providing networking opportunities and insight into careers in local government legal practice. Student applications are now live.
Applications will be reviewed by LLG and participating local authorities will be notified of their allocated student by 19 June 2026. To express interest, applicants should complete the online form linked on the LLG page; enquiries can be sent to legaltalent@llg.
