This work experience placement gives Year 10 and 11 students an insight into how Luton Borough Council serves residents and makes decisions. It is designed to help young people develop practical skills, explore careers in local government, and understand the role of a council in supporting a community.
The Citizen Engagement and Legal Services placement focuses on communication, research, local democracy, and how the council follows the law. Participants can expect to learn how decisions are made, how residents are listened to, and how public services are delivered.
The placement is especially useful for students who are interested in civic life, law, politics, and the wider public sector. The page invites applicants to think about their own interests, what has inspired them to apply, and what they hope to gain from the experience.
It is a short, one-week style placement with a limited number of places, offering a meaningful introduction to work within a local authority.
