Professor Tim Whitmarsh will give a public lecture titled “Stories of the Gods: the Epics of Byzantium” on 12 March 2026 at AKS Lytham, Clifton Drive, FY8 1DT. Doors open at 18:15 for refreshments and the lecture begins at 19:00.
The event is presented by the Lytham St Annes branch of The Classical Association.
Tim Whitmarsh is Regius Professor of Greek at the University of Cambridge and Editor in Chief of the fifth edition of the Oxford Classical Dictionary. His research covers Greek literature and culture, with emphasis on Greeks under the Roman Empire, religion and atheism in the ancient world, and identity issues.
He is a Fellow of the British Academy and a frequent contributor to broadcast media.

Non-members pay a £5 ticket for individual lectures. Membership (Lytham St Annes CA) costs £12 per year for adults or £5 for children and students and entitles members to free entry to the lecture series.
