The Lytham St Annes branch of The Classical Association presents a presidential lecture by Professor Michael Scott titled "The worst place you could ever be: visiting the Sanctuary of Olympia. " The event takes place at AKS Lytham, Clifton Drive (FY8 1DT) on Thursday 8 January 2026; doors open at 18:15 for refreshments and the lecture runs from 19:00 to 20:00.
Professor Michael Scott is Pro-Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs and Professor of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Warwick. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, an Honorary Citizen of Delphi, and recipient of the Classical Association prize for outreach.
He is the author of several books on the ancient Mediterranean and has presented television and radio documentaries for National Geographic, the History Channel, ITV and the BBC.
Audience members are invited to attend in person (and the branch offers options to join or watch online via the branch's membership pages).
