The Paddle Steamer Maid of the Loch in Balloch is recruiting volunteer Archivists and Exhibitions Assistants to help research and develop its historic archive and contribute to onboard displays and temporary exhibitions. Volunteers will work with the newly formed heritage team to identify content for exhibitions, help develop interactive activities, and explore archival material that could be added to the collection.
Volunteers will gain practical heritage research and curating skills, access a free programme of heritage skills training, and take part in collaborative research including occasional site visits to museums and archives. The role supports the project to revitalise the vessel's exhibition spaces and encourage public engagement with Loch Lomond's social and industrial maritime history.
The role is largely home-based with very occasional travel to the Maid of the Loch in Balloch. The organisation asks for a flexible minimum commitment of around 8 hours per month but can vary tasks according to volunteers' interests.
