Research local issues, draft press releases and help answer constituents’ queries by phone or email while gaining insight into a constituency MP’s office. You may also accompany the MP to meetings or events in the House of Commons or the constituency.
Mark Garnier offers work experience opportunities for students from his constituency. The placement is designed to give young people an insight into local politics and the day-to-day work involved in supporting a constituency MP, while also helping them build useful skills for the future.
Participants may be asked to help with a range of office and parliamentary tasks, depending on their age and ability. These can include researching an issue, taking press cuttings, writing press releases, assisting with office duties, and answering constituents’ queries by phone or email.
The experience may also include accompanying the MP to meetings or events in the House of Commons or in the constituency, and some casework support. Interested students are invited to contact the office to enquire about taking part.
