Unpack how hackers break into systems and how digital defences work, then explore AI through examples like self-driving cars and smart assistants. Get a taste of campus life with a tour and a hands-on mini-AI project.
St Mary's University, London invites students in the first and second year of sixth form or college to a Computer Science Masterclass Day at its Twickenham campus. The event is designed to give prospective students an insight into studying computer science at university and to showcase what the subject can involve beyond the classroom.
The programme includes a session on cyber security, exploring how digital defences work, how hackers break into systems, and how students can help protect themselves and others online. There is also an AI session looking at how artificial intelligence works, with examples such as self-driving cars and smart assistants, alongside a hands-on mini-AI project.
Students will also have the chance to arrive on campus, take part in a campus tour and experience the university environment. The day is aimed at young people considering computer science or related study and offers a practical, subject-focused introduction to the field.
