MBDA's Mechanical Engineering Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship is a four-year paid programme combining on-the-job placements with day-release study. Apprentices will be based at MBDA's Stevenage site and rotate through placements such as Mechanical Design, Mechanical Analysis, Materials and Processes, Configuration Management and Environmental Engineering.
The role emphasises practical application of scientific and mathematical principles to design, make and test missile system hardware.
Training is delivered in partnership with Cambridge Regional College and includes study towards a Level 4 Engineering Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship, which includes an HNC in Mechanical Engineering. Apprentices attend college typically one day per week with the remainder spent on work placements of three to six months; the programme includes support to achieve professional accreditation (IMechE, IET or RAeS).
The apprenticeship requires standard entry qualifications (GCSEs, A Level or BTEC as specified) and successful candidates will be subject to personnel security checks. The programme offers 37-hour working weeks, a comprehensive benefits package including pension and bonus schemes, and opportunities for progression into technical specialist or management roles.
