Join a two-week internship in Arusha: shadow doctors and nurses, learn first aid, suturing and vital signs, and run supervised community outreaches with Maasai villages-build skills, boost your UCAS personal statement and explore healthcare career paths.
This two-week medical internship in Arusha, Tanzania, is designed for high school students (aged 15-18) who want firsthand experience of a medical career. Participants shadow doctors and nurses in a local hospital, attend medical workshops (including basic first aid and practical skills like measuring blood pressure and suturing), and take part in supervised community medical outreaches in rural Maasai communities.
Clinical shadowing hours typically range from 25 to 50, with an additional 15 to 30 volunteer service hours during outreaches.
Accommodation is provided in a guesthouse or with host families in Arusha with three meals a day included, and local staff provide 24/7 support. The programme includes airport pickup, transport to placements, a cultural awareness course, and organised social and tourism activities (including a weekend safari).
No prior qualifications or medical experience are required; all tasks are supervised by local medical staff and a dedicated Projects Abroad medical doctor who provides clinical oversight and mentoring.
The project aims to give students practical insights for university applications and careers in medicine while contributing basic healthcare to underserved communities. Participants receive a certificate of project completion and access to alumni services.
Flights, travel/medical insurance, and visa fees are not included in the programme cost.
