This is an observational medical internship for teenagers organised by Projects Abroad in Nepal. You will shadow qualified doctors during rounds, rotate through different hospital departments in the Chitwan District (including placements in Bharatpur and Kathmandu), and attend lectures at a local teaching hospital.
Clinical shadowing hours are listed at 25-50 and volunteer service hours 15-30.
The placement is designed for high school students (ages 15-18) who want to gain medical work experience and insight into healthcare in a developing country. No prior medical experience is required; the focus is on learning, observing, attending lectures, and asking questions to build basic medical knowledge and inform future career choices.
The programme runs on fixed dates (typically during school holidays) with trips lasting two, three, or four weeks. Fees include accommodation in a hotel with other volunteers, three meals a day, airport transfer, local transport to placements, in-country support and 24-hour staff backup, training workshops, organised social activities, and visa support/advice.
Flights, visa fees (where applicable) and travel/medical insurance are not included.
