Join this hands-on appliqué workshop in Edinburgh to learn how to upcycle and embellish clothing using fabric motifs, visible mending and decorative stitching. The session covers using a bonding medium to attach patches, machine and hand embroidery techniques, and adding buttons and beads to personalise garments.
The teacher demonstrates combining visible mending with creative textile art to conceal damage or transform plain items into unique pieces. This class is aimed at makers who already have basic sewing-machine skills and are interested in sustainable fashion and creative clothing repair.
Participants should bring garments they want to embellish (denim jackets, jumpers, trousers, plain tops), fabric scraps or trims, and any buttons, beads or embroidery threads they wish to use. Creative inspiration references are welcome and a selection of resources is available on-site.
Workshops are taught by Jen, founder of Artisan Stitch, an experienced tutor in dressmaking, upcycling and textile art. Before booking, check the studio's terms and conditions as tickets are non-refundable and ensure you meet the requisite skills if you have not taken Artisan Stitch foundation courses.
