Want a foot in the Civil Service? Join a two-week work experience pathway across government, build practical skills, connect with professionals and open a route into public-sector jobs — with potential for a fixed-term appointment afterwards.

The Movement to Work Pathway is a two-week work experience placement within the Civil Service, delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions and run across government departments. It is part of the Government’s Going Forward into Employment (GFiE) Life Chances pathways and is designed to help young people gain practical experience and a route into public-sector employment.

The pathway can potentially lead to a temporary fixed-term appointment for up to 24 months, with the possibility of permanent employment after 12 months. It is aimed at young people who are not in education, employment or training, and candidates are sourced through Jobcentre customers.

Those receiving unemployment-related benefits are directed to speak with their assigned work coach to check whether suitable placements are available locally.
