Visit a carer’s home and spend time with the person they support, giving the carer a proper break. Chat, walk, play board games or watch TV - without administering medication or providing personal care. Visits are agreed flexibly, usually around two hours each week or fortnight.
This volunteering role supports carers by giving them a much-needed break from their caring responsibilities. Volunteers visit the home of a carer or cared-for person and spend time with the cared-for person, helping to provide company and reassurance while the carer takes time for themselves.
Typical activities include chatting, going for a walk, playing board games or watching television. Volunteers do not administer medication or carry out any personal care, so the role is focused on companionship and support rather than hands-on care.
The role is flexible and is arranged at an agreed time, usually for around two hours each week or fortnight. Experience as an unpaid carer is desirable but not essential, and volunteers receive ongoing support, training and a written role description.
Out-of-pocket expenses, such as public transport and mileage, will be reimbursed.
