A one-day programme brings Daphne Oram’s electronic music legacy to life through talks, performances and demonstrations. Try sound experiments in a recycled electronics sound lab, make zines and see mini Oramics demonstrations in the family programme.
This one-day museum event celebrates Daphne Oram’s pioneering legacy in electronic music and sound. It brings together artists, academics and sound enthusiasts for a varied programme of talks, performances and demonstrations, alongside family-friendly activities throughout the day.
Visitors can explore Oram’s influence through keynote talks, panel discussions, live performance and screened projects inspired by her work. The event highlights her role as co-founder of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and her invention of the Oramics machine, showing how her ideas connected technology, sound and creativity long before today’s conversations about digital media and AI.
The family programme offers hands-on ways to experiment with sound and creativity, including zine-making, mini Oramics demonstrations and a recycled electronics sound lab. It is designed to be accessible and engaging for a broad audience, with a free, drop-in format for many activities and a welcoming atmosphere for all ages.
