Spend a week inside an MP’s office, seeing how constituents are represented, legislation scrutinised and policy researched. Explore current political issues across Westminster and the local constituency, with placements based in Solihull and online activity on Fridays.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP’s Work Experience Programme gives young people the chance to see what happens behind the scenes in British politics and to experience life in a Member of Parliament’s office. Successful applicants spend a week learning about the day-to-day responsibilities of an MP, including representing constituents, scrutinising legislation, researching policy, communicating with the public, and engaging with current political issues.
The programme is run in three separate weeks, designed for GCSE students, sixth form students, and university students. Placements are aimed at students interested in politics, Parliament, and public service, and provide practical insight into how an MP supports their constituents and works within Westminster and the local constituency.
Placements are based in Solihull, with online activity on Fridays, and successful applicants must complete parliamentary security clearance before their placement is confirmed.
