Newcastle University's English Taster Day, organised by the School of English Literature, Language & Linguistics, gives Year 12 students an academic insight into studying English Language and English Literature at degree level. The event is delivered on campus and is designed for teacher-led Year 12 school groups.
Activities aim to introduce course content, student life, and the kinds of lectures and seminars students experience at university.
The event on 24 March 2026 follows a structured timetable (arrival 10:00, programme overview, a Language and Linguistics lecture on Child Language Acquisition, student-life session, lunch, campus tour, a Literature overview and a Literature lecture on Victorian Literature: Dracula, with feedback and departure around 15:00). Teachers are able to book via the online booking link; the deadline to book is 10 March 2026.
