Explore how AI works and why it can excel at some tasks but struggle with others in a Royal Institution STEM masterclass. Question ideas like large language models and whether AI could be conscious. You’ll receive a Royal Institution certificate of participation.
Newham College London is hosting a free Royal Institution STEM masterclass for Year 10 and Year 11 students focused on AI. The session is designed to be hands-on and thought-provoking, helping students build curiosity and confidence while exploring how artificial intelligence works and why it can seem brilliant at some tasks but poor at others.
Students will look closely at ideas such as large language models, the meaning of intelligence in AI, and how to think critically about claims that AI could be conscious. The session is intended to give learners a practical toolkit for understanding real-world STEM challenges, while also showing how these ideas connect to future study and career opportunities.
Students who attend will receive a certificate of participation from the Royal Institution. One parent or carer may accompany each student and wait on site during the event.
