North Cumbria Integrated Care offers work experience placements for people thinking about a career in the NHS. The Careers Engagement team coordinates safe and meaningful placements so participants can gain practical insight into how healthcare services work and explore a range of careers across the organisation.
Placements usually last 1 to 2 days, depending on department availability, and can be arranged in a number of clinical and non-clinical areas. The page lists departments including emergency medicine, pharmacy, radiology, physiotherapy, pathology, occupational therapy, medical engineering, research and development, and several community and ward-based services.
After you enquire by email, you are sent a digital form. If a suitable placement can be found, you then receive confirmation with your personalised programme, including dates, times, contact details, a placement agreement and shadowing guidance.
On the first day you are met by your nominated contact, issued with a visitor badge and taken through an induction checklist. Once completed, you receive an evaluation form and a certificate of achievement.
Virtual online work experience links are also offered for those under 16.
