Northeastern University London’s Scientist (Biology) is a degree apprenticeship that combines foundational biological science with data literacy, coding, project management and workplace-applied learning. The programme is delivered as a BSc (Hons) Scientist (Biological Scientist) and is designed to integrate with full-time employment so apprentices gain academic knowledge alongside on-the-job skills relevant to research, R&D and laboratory roles.
Study is primarily distance learning with directed online modules, virtual seminars, in-person bootcamps and 1:1 academic support. Apprentices complete structured workplace activities and assessments contextualised to their employer; the programme includes up to one week of in-person teaching annually during both Year 1 and Year 2 in London.
Typical course length is 36–39 months and the end-point assessment is integrated into the apprenticeship standard (ST0626).
Entry is employer-led: applicants must be employed in a suitable role. Typical academic requirements include three A-levels (or equivalent) including Biology and GCSE Maths and English at grade 4/C or above.
Employers can access training funding via the government levy or co-investment arrangements; prospective apprentices are advised to apply via employer vacancies (e. g. , the UK Find an Apprenticeship service) or register interest with Northeastern’s apprenticeship team.
