Explore council careers through placements in areas from country parks and conservation to finance, planning and digital services. You could observe professionals, contribute to projects and learn about career pathways, with each placement shaped by the team you join.
Northumberland County Council is offering work experience placements across a wide range of services for the 2026/27 academic year. The programme is designed for school and college students who want to gain practical insight into working life, explore future career options and build confidence in a real workplace setting.
Placements are available in professional, technical, environmental and customer-focused roles. Students may be placed in areas such as country parks, green spaces, landscape and conservation, finance, legal services, business administration, planning, data, digital and technology, libraries, archives, occupational therapy support services and environmental health.
Depending on the service area, participants may observe professionals in their day-to-day roles, learn about career pathways and qualifications, contribute to projects and service activities, and develop key employability skills such as communication, teamwork and problem-solving. Each placement is different and availability may vary by team.
