Curious about careers in the NHS? Join tailored work experience at Northumbria Healthcare to explore clinical and non-clinical roles, build practical skills, and see day-to-day work firsthand—perfect for students, career changers or those returning to work.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust offers work experience placements across its different sites so participants can gain a first-hand look at the wide range of careers available in the NHS. Placements are designed to show what staff do day to day and the skills needed in clinical and non-clinical roles.

The programme is not only for students: people considering a career change or returning to work can also apply, and placements can be tailored to the individual where possible. Placements usually last three to five days, with the first day completed as a virtual induction that can be done at home or in school, followed by an on-site placement.

Applications must be made through the official online form and include a personal statement explaining the applicant’s interests and career goals. Successful applicants must complete Occupational Health clearance and provide evidence of MMR or measles vaccinations before starting.

Some departments have extra age or year-group restrictions, and placements are only available to local residents or eligible family members of staff.
