  • Be a UK/Home applicant eligible to pay Home fees
  • Apply and enrol to study full-time on an Undergraduate course starting at Level 3 (entry level for an Extended Degree) or Level 4 (first year of an Undergraduate Degree) at the Newcastle Upon Tyne campus, commencing September 2026
  • Be a self-funded student (i.e. not sponsored by an employer)
  • Apply for one or more elements of the Government Student Finance package (for example, Tuition Fee loan, Maintenance loan)
  • Register with Student Finance England (SFE), Student Finance Wales (SFW) or Student Finance Northern Ireland (SFNI). Scottish students must register with SAAS and apply to be means-tested so SAAS can send data to SFE
  • Agree to share consent via your Student Finance Provider with Northumbria University
  • Currently studying in the academic year 2025/26 at one of the listed institutions (Middlesbrough College; City of Sunderland College; East Durham College; Bede Sixth Form College; Hartlepool College of Further Education; Hartlepool Sixth Form College) and expected to complete in Summer 2026
  • Awarded to new students enrolling in September 2026 only
  • Students eligible for the Northumbria Support Bursary 2026 will not be eligible for any other Undergraduate awards; if successful with an alternative award, the highest value award will be given
  • No separate application is required; eligibility checks will be carried out post-enrolment and those who meet all conditions will be automatically awarded a bursary

£4,500 total

Pay & Benefits

Total bursary value £4,500 paid as £1,500 per year across years one to three. Year one payment schedule (example): £375 by end November 2026, £375 by end February 2027, £750 by end May 2027. Payments made by bank transfer. Bursary paid across a maximum of three years and will start from September 2026. Not paid in placement years or study abroad years; withdrawn if student resits, takes a break, defers before payment, or leaves the course.
