Northumbria University's Academic Sessions for Schools and Colleges offers faculty taster days, subject sessions and online webinars across the academic year for school and college groups. The programme includes subject-specific taster days (for example Health Alive for nursing and midwifery subjects, Psychology Taster Day, Law Taster Day, and Geography & Environmental Science Taster Day), outreach weeks (e.
g. NUSTEM Experience Week focusing on Physics, Maths and Chemistry) and shorter talks/workshops on topics such as social media and AI. Many activities include campus tours, sample lectures, practical sessions, research activities and opportunities to meet academic staff and current students.
Events are aimed primarily at Year 12 and Year 13 students preparing for university study, though there are workshops tailored for Years 7-13. Activities vary by subject and event: typical components include attending a first-year lecture, interviewing researchers or postgraduates, creating research posters, practical sessions in specialist facilities, mock trials for law, and real research sessions in psychology.
Some talks (e. g. stand-up comedy & mental health, marketing/AI sessions, music/history workshops) are available to book for groups with suitable year-group tailoring.
To arrange attendance teachers are asked to complete the online enquiry/registration form linked on the page or contact named staff members (emails provided for event leads). The page lists upcoming and past events and encourages schools and colleges to enquire about bespoke sessions where required.
