Walk through Sarah Cunningham’s exhibition with Dr Adam Searle, exploring her ideas about nature, feminist speculative fiction and more-than-human worlds. Then respond to selected excerpts from Ursula K. Le Guin with creative writing prompts.

Join Dr. Adam Searle for a walkthrough of Sarah Cunningham: Midnight Sun, Nottingham Contemporary’s exhibition of the late British artist’s work. The session explores Cunningham’s conceptual treatment of nature and its relationship to the human, with particular attention to feminist speculative fiction and the influence of writers and thinkers such as Ursula K.

Le Guin, Donna Haraway and Anna Tsing.

The event also looks at Cunningham’s idea of a ‘forest studio’ and uses the exhibition as a starting point for thinking about ecology, storytelling and visual art. Participants will spend time with selected excerpts from Le Guin’s writing and take part in creative writing prompts that consider how fabulation can open up different ways of imagining more-than-human worlds.

This is a public event held in the gallery and is suitable for anyone interested in contemporary art, ecology, literature and experimental writing. Attendance is free, and the walkthrough takes place in the gallery spaces with microphones provided for the speaker.
